Who We Are

Welcome to The Autonomous Collective!
We aim to educate and empower Black mothers to create the birth and motherhood journeys they desire and deserve.

The Autonomous Collective began as Autonomous Birth, a YouTube series highlighting Black women’s birthing stories through short-form documentaries. Each mother shared her journey through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum in her own words.

After taking a much-needed break, I brought the platform back in a new form — as a conversational podcast. As my own motherhood journey has evolved, so has the vision for this space. I found myself wanting to explore motherhood beyond those first two years, including the highs, lows, growth, and transformation that continue well past birth. With that, The Autonomous Collective was born.

While the podcast remains at the heart of what we do, the platform is expanding to include products, workshops, and events designed to support, inspire, and connect mothers at every stage.

The Woman behind The Autonomous Collective

Hi! My name is Nija, the founder of The Autonomous Collective. I am many things: a foodie, a gamer (when I have time), book lover, a friend, a wife, and most of all a mother to two boys. The Autonomous Birth was created as a result of my birthing and postpartum experience with my first child.
